New Adventure...

This week we embarked upon a new journey in our marriage. To spare a lot of details and typing, Marty lost his job this week. After a mixture of emotions, ups and downs, confusion and frustration we are viewing this as a new adventure for us. Marty has been miserable in his job for the last couple of months. He has been stressed, irritable, and just not himself. Even after just a couple of days at home I have my goofy, silly, hubby back and that is such a blessing. We have been exploring many options of what comes next, some financial jobs around Norfolk, some elsewhere and he is also thinking about teaching. We trust that God is good, He has provided for us in the past and will continue to provide for us now and into the future. While at our community group last week we read through a letter Jeremiah sent to Jerusalem while they were in exile in Babylon. During this we read 29:11, this is a verse I memorized as a child about how the Lord knows the plans He has for us. Well, I had never noticed the wording in the ESV- For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for wholeness and not evil, to give you a future and a hope. I think the word wholeness is so powerful, especially in times of uncertainty. Thank you for your encouragement and prayers throughout the past week. We are truly blessed to be loved and supported so deeply.

Marty and Mere-

I am sorry to hear about your job - but as Meredith posted, I am thankful you have the opportunity to REALLY put ALL THINGS in the hands of God. I feel like God has put us through that for the past year or two - really not having control of our circumstances. It has caused Bill and I to grow closer as we realize our lives are not our own - and we have seen AMAZING things as God has provided for us. He has NEVER left us - so I will pray you will see God in new ways and be blessed because of it. Please keep us updated! Love, Steph (and Bill and Lucy)

mere,
my heart just broke for you the day you told us the news at lunch. :( i don't know what you & marty are going through, but i can only imagine it's harder than the majority of what you've gone through together thus far. i came home that night, thinking of you both, and god put this verse on my heart,
"and we know that in all things, God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose." -romans 8:28
i'm sure you've heard it before, but the part that really stands out to me is not just the comforting words of assurance at the beginning, but those at the end- "who have been called according to His purpose." God has lead you through faith in Him to this point and i just know He will continue to do so. you both are wonderful instruments of faith and i know that God has so many wonderful things planned for you two. life isn't always good, but God is! :)

I am so sorry to hear about Marty's job. Everything does happen for a reason even if the reason is hard to see right now. Stay strong and stay together, together you guys can get through anything. I praying for you!
