9 months (a week late)

Hatley-Grace is 9 months :)

Length: 26 inches
Weight: 16 lbs. 12 oz.
Head Circumference: 17.50
Hair/Eyes: Light brown/ blue, sometimes hazel
Clothing: mostly 9 months, some 6-12 months
Diapers:  Flips on medium length, 4 snaps in

This month we have experienced lots of teething, so it is hard to say what is "normal" for this time with HG.  Also, with the recent time change and having visitors in our home for 2 weeks, our routine is not very clear anymore.  Pre-time change, HG was sleeping from 7pm-6/6:30am.  She consistently takes two daytime naps ranging from 1-2 hours in length.  She very rarely takes a third cat nap.  She will not sleep when we are out and about.  Not even in the nursery at church with sweet ladies cuddling her.

HG nurses every 3-4 hours, which is about 5 times a day.  This month we transitioned into offering HG solids three times a day.  She isn't a picky eater, yet does not eat much of anything.  She eats mostly vegetables and fruits right now, and prefers vegetables.  Avocados are still a favorite, along with carrots and bananas.  Whole milk plain yogurt has been a great addition to meals as well.

Motor Skills:
HG is not traditionally crawling, yet can move herself across the room to get into anything and everything.  She will inchworm, roll and scoot on her back to get places.  She likes to push her body around on the wood floors.  She has discovered her feet and uses them as tools to grab toys or soothe herself by sucking on her toes.

Hatley-Grace loves to turn the pages in a book, and flip the book around to find the best corner to gnaw on.  This girl has the strongest grip and especially enjoys grabbing hold of skin, eyes and hair.  She has drawn my blood on multiple occasions.  She can grab peas and other small pieces of food, yet refuses to put them in her mouth.

-  Hattie-Grace has started babbling Mama, Dada and bye bye.  She loves waving hello and bye bye on command now.
-  She is ticklish on her thighs, and underarms and laughs out loud when tickled.
-  Peek-a-boo is still a favorite game.
-  She loves other kids and babies.  She gets loud and squealy around other children.  Even pictures of babies make her squeal.
-  HG loves taking baths and splash and kick in the water.
-  Changing HG's diaper has become more difficult as she squirms around more these days.  Whenever she hears a noise or someone else in the house, she wants to flip around off the changing table to see who it is.
-  Hatley-Grace loves when I sing songs and tries to join in.

Dear sweet Hattie-Grace,

Another month has flown by in your little life.  This month was a strange one, trying to figure out eating and schedules while you were lots of pain cutting some teeth.  You didn't sleep fully at night some weeks this month, waking around 4/5am hungry.  We are both learning as you are transitioning from a baby into this next stage.  I am quickly realizing that you will soon be walking and talking and having your own opinions and a distinct personality.  Every new stage is so very exciting to me, I love that I get to watch you grow and develop into the woman that God designed you to be.

This week, when you are technically 9 months and 1 week old, you started calling Mama from your crib.  I am claiming Mama as your first word because it is the mostly intentionally used word in your vocabulary.  It is the most dear thing to my ears!  You usually say Mama when you are hungry and waking in the morning, or from a nap.  You have also called my name when you are in pain from your teeth and can't sleep.  I love that you know me.  I love that you call for me in hunger and in pain and rely on my to satisfy those needs.  I won't always be able to meet those needs, and I am thankful that I can now.  I love that you smile when I pick you up from nursery, before I even say a word, you can spot me from across the room and smile.  I love that you are totally fine when we are apart, yet you recognize me as your Mama and your safe place.  I love that you are also a true Daddy's girl, and your face lights up when he enters the room.

Sweet Hattie-Grace, you are so very loved!
