Summer is for road trips

We just got back from a quick trip to Virginia.  We drove up Wednesday, left HG with the in-laws on Thursday to spend two days in Blacksburg for a college roomate's wedding.  We returned to the Richmond area on Saturday and drove back to Florida Monday.  Whew.  It was a great time visiting with family and friends, and a refreshing time away for just Marty and me in Blacksburg.

Thursday night were enjoyed a beautiful rehearsal dinner at the Blacksburg Country Club.  That evening we drove back to Roanoke and spent the night at my Aunt and Uncle's house.  We were grateful for their hospitality and enjoyed breakfast together Friday morning.
Friday we drove into Blacksburg and spent the whole day exploring campus and reminiscing about our glory days at Tech.  We got to see the brand new indoor football training fields, went in Lane Stadium, the Horticulture Gardens were we got engaged 9 years ago!  There were lots of new buildings to see as well.  We went to Main Street for a nice lunch at Cabo Fish Taco, one of our favorite local spots.

Once we had walked over 20,000 steps according to Marty's iPhone, we headed to check in at the Inn at Virginia Tech.  We got ready for the wedding festivities and watched my sweet friend marry her groom in the sunken gardens near the Duck Pond.  We partied the night away at the Inn with college friends.  The next morning, I enjoyed a cool morning walk around campus, we ate with friends and then headed back to Colonial Heights.  On the drive, we stopped for lunch to see more friends in Lynchburg.
This getaway was so refreshing for both of us.  We loved reconnecting with friends that we live so far away from.  We are blessed to have these sweet people who love us well and pray for us and our ministry.

Hatley-Grace had a wonderful time with her Paw Paw and BB.  She was a great traveler as well.  We filled up the 11/12 hour drive with a picnic lunch at rest stops, reading books, playing baby dolls, movies, sticker books, naps, and even an ice cream stop on the way home :)

Ice cream in the car seat is most definitely a vacation only occurrence (a potential huge mess, avoided by sharing with Mama) :)

I hope you are enjoying the last few weeks of summer!
